Pour Over
A pour over is an inexpensive way to get a great, consistent cup of coffee. A pour over typically consists of a ceramic, glass or plastic funnel shaped device which has a small hole in the bottom. This device is placed directly over any coffee cup of your choice. It requires the use of a paper filter. Grounds are added to the paper filter and water is poured over the ground with a kettle. The coffee is allowed to “bloom” and briefly stirred for a few seconds before another pouring of hot water over the ground. The coffee then drips into a lower coffee cup and then the filter is discarded. The end result is a perfectly extracted cup of coffee in just a few minutes of time.
- Use a medium fine grind
- Use water heated to approximately 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Slowly pour the hot water in a circular motion and allow the coffee to “bloom”, stir briefly before adding more water.
- -Use a gooseneck kettle, this allows the water to pour slowly and evenly over the grounds.
A ceramic or glass pour over is recommended over a plastic one. This is due to prevent any remaining flavors from altering the taste of your coffee which is a common problem when using a plastic device.
